Passing your test can definitely be one of the most nerve wracking experiences of your entire life. However, providing you’ve taken the time to prepare, you should find passing as easy as 1,2,3. Here are some little tips you can use to help you:
Make sure your instructor makes you feel comfortable and has your best interests at heart
The first thing you need to do if you’re going to pass your driving test easily, is find an instructor that makes you feel comfortable. Not only that, you should know that they have your best interests at heart. If you have lots of lessons and they still haven’t started taking you through different maneuvers, then they probably just want to get more money out of you! Don’t worry though; you can go to a driving school and there are many trustworthy instructors out there too. Take your time selecting your teacher, and don’t be afraid to change at any point.
Listen to your instructor and ask for their advice
When you’ve found the right instructor, make sure you listen to them and take their advice. If they tell you that you don’t check your mirrors enough, make more of an effort to look in all of your mirrors as often as you can. Make sure you listen to them when it comes to taking your test too. They will be able to tell you when they think you are ready, but don’t wait. If you think you’re ready, see what they think.
Make sure you’ve had enough hours practice
Now, the amount of practice that one person needs will vary. This could be absolutely anywhere from 20-40 hours. Some people pass first time after 20 hours, while others take 3 times to pass after 40. The key is to listen to your feedback if you fail. A lot of it is to do with the conditions of the day too. It’s a good idea to be prepared for anything, and ensure you feel familiar with the area the test is in.
If you want to make things a little cheaper, asking somebody who you know and trust with experience to help teach you could cut the costs of lessons.
Practice techniques to stay calm
No matter how much practice you’ve had, the day will come and you’ll likely feel very nervous. This is normal! You may feel shaky, go red hot, or your mind may go blank. Make sure you’re aware of how you react to stressful situations so you can figure out the best course of action to take. A couple of techniques you could try are a few drops of rescue remedy on your tongue, as well a deep breathing techniques.
Remember, if you need a moment before you actually start your test, then all you need to do is ask the examiner.
Remember, hardly anybody feels ‘ready’
It’s rare that a person will feel 100% ‘ready’, even if their instructor says that they are. However, you might just surprise yourself!
