How to ensure your car is safe on the road

Summer 2020 is well and truly one we’ll never forget. With temperatures rising and lockdown slowly easing, it’s time to get on the road! Being out in the car in the summer months is one of life’s little pleasures, even if all you’re doing is heading to the beach for the day.

In the summer, you may be getting your water intake up and staying as cool as possible in the shade. It’s important to take care of yourself, right? Well, are you taking care of your car? If your car is on the drive and in the sunshine fairly often, you need to know what happens in the hot weather when you decide to drive.

It doesn’t matter where you’re going, you need to take care of your car in the summer sunshine. The last thing that you want is for your car to buckle in the heat – it’s not ideal! So, other than getting a great BMW Service, you need the tips below to make sure that your car is a safe one on the road. Let’s take a look at what you need to know!

Watch your battery

The heat of the summer can really affect your battery in your car. The acid and the fluid inside the battery can get too hot and cause it to expand, and this then leads to a leaking battery, affecting the rest of the inside of the car. The fluid levels of your battery have to be perfect so that your battery isn’t going to die on you in the heat. Making sure that your battery is fully charged is important, and it’ll prevent any unpleasantness on your road trip.

Double check the cooling system

The car overheating in the sunshine is a big problem, so you have to check to see if your cooling system is working properly. Always check the air conditioning in your car too, especially if you plan to be out and about in the summer sunshine. It is essential that your air conditioning is working properly so that you can be comfortable while you drive, so get it checked out!

Check the brakes too

You can’t safely drive unless your brakes are in the best possible condition. Brake fluid should be checked at least twice a month in the summer, and you can then see how worn out they are pretty quickly. This will help you to learn if you need to be replacing the brake pads or the brakes themselves.

Kick the tyres

Not literally, of course, but get your tyres checked to see whether they are at the right pressure. You should also look at the tyre tread to ensure that they are at the right depth to maintain their grip on the road.

Your car will work its best if you look after it properly before the summer comes in. You can ensure that you are comfortable on the road and you aren’t a danger to other people, too.
