Volvo beats the market for 2017 sales
Volvo Car UK has posted its second-highest annual sales figure in 25 years, selling 46,139 cars in 2017. This is only slightly behind 2016’s record-breaking figure of 46,696. The decline of just 1.2% is an especially strong result considering the overall market saw sales decline by almost 6%. Volvo also increased its UK market share from 1.73% in 2016 to 1.83% in 2017.
The XC60 was the best-selling model in the UK, with 16,302 sold. This included the final cars of the outgoing model, and the initial sales of the new model. It will be interesting to see how 2018 compares… The next best-selling models were the V40, with 14,256 sold, and the XC90, with 6,210 sold.
This impressive UK performance helped Volvo Cars achieve another year of record global sales, selling 571,577 cars in 2017, up 7% on 2016’s figure.
2017 was also an exceptional year in terms of Volvo Selekt Approved Used Car sales. A total of 25,693 Volvo Selekt cars were sold in the UK in 2017, a 15% year-on-year increase.
Commenting on the sales performance, Jon Wakefield, Managing Director of Volvo Car UK, said: “Selling more than 46,000 new cars and growing our UK market share is a tremendous result, especially considering the current market conditions. It’s a testament to the desirability and quality of our cars, and a result of all the hard work of everyone at Volvo Car UK and the entire retailer network.”
He added “With the newly launched XC40 premium compact SUV now on sale and more exciting Volvos to come, we expect 2018 to be another strong year for Volvo.” We certainly agree that 2018 should be a great year for Volvo. Keep an eye out for the XC40 on this website, as it’s on our list to test! But for now, feel free to head over to www.volvocars.com/uk for more information.
