AUTODOC UK: What to know before you order car parts online
Buying car parts online is convenient until the wrong part turns up, or you can’t tell when a parcel will arrive, or what happens if you need to send it back. Those three concerns come up again and again with drivers who order online.
This guide looks at how AUTODOC handles them for UK customers. AUTODOC is an online retailer founded in 2008, and according to its own help centre, it served over 9.3 million active customers across 27 European countries in 2025. Everything below comes from AUTODOC’s UK help centre and was checked in October 2026. Policies can change, so read the current terms before ordering.
Safe Order: 200 days to change your mind
AUTODOC’s standard consumer return window is 14 days from delivery. Items must be unused, unmodified and undamaged. Return shipping is at your expense unless you activated the Safe Order option at checkout.
For a small fee added at checkout, Safe Order extends the return window from 14 days to 200 days. That is useful for longer projects, seasonal vehicles, or repairs where you’re still confirming the diagnosis and aren’t certain which part you need.
A few points to know before you tick the box:
-
It applies per order, so you choose it each time.
-
It is only available for items sold directly by AUTODOC, not for third-party sellers on the AUTODOC Marketplace.
-
It does not cover bulky items, core parts or tyres. Tyres and rims follow the standard 14-day timeframe.
A returns portal you can use without an account
The quickest way to return something is the AUTODOC Returns Portal at autodoc.co.uk/returns. In your account, open My Orders, choose the order, then select Returns and Support. You pick the item, choose a return reason and upload a photo if relevant. A confirmation along with instructions for returning the item will then be emailed to you. Be sure to check your spam folder should the message fail to arrive.
You don’t need an account to start a return. The Returns and Support link in the site footer takes you to the portal, where you enter your postcode and order number.
Send the item back with the label provided, ideally using a tracked courier service. Choosing an accurate reason and including a photo helps AUTODOC process the return faster.
How long do refunds take? Once AUTODOC has received and processed your returned item, a refund is typically issued within 7 business days. After that, arrival time depends on how you paid:
-
PayPal: 1–3 business days
-
Bank card: 1–3 business days
-
Bank transfer: 1–14 days
If a refund hasn’t arrived within those timeframes, AUTODOC asks you to contact customer support through live chat.
Delivery and tracking
AUTODOC gives an estimated UK delivery time of 3 to 4 business days. Delivery times can vary with product availability, public holidays, weather and courier issues, and no deliveries are made on public holidays. Orders are sent by courier only. You can’t collect from the warehouse, and you can’t choose the courier company.
When your order is handed to the courier, AUTODOC sends an email with a tracking number. If your order is split into several parcels, the email contains several tracking numbers, so check each one if only part of an order has arrived. AUTODOC notes that a parcel’s location may not be updated daily.
If a parcel isn’t collected, it is sent back to AUTODOC. The refund is made after the items are returned and inspected.
Customer support hours
AUTODOC’s UK customer service is open Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, and Saturday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. It is closed on Sundays. The quickest route to the team is the live chat on autodoc.co.uk.
Warranty claims and core parts
Warranty. AUTODOC’s warranty claim filing period is 24 months from delivery, covering manufacturing defects and parts that fail under normal use. You start a claim from My Orders by choosing “Return or replace item”, selecting “Warranty claim” as the reason, describing the fault and attaching a photo. If the part has to go back to the manufacturer for examination, AUTODOC says the process can take 6 to 8 weeks.
Core parts. Some parts, such as alternators, brake calipers and starters, are sold with a refundable deposit (a core charge). You get the deposit back when you return the old unit from your vehicle. You have 12 months from delivery to return it. Return shipping is at your expense even with Safe Order, and the used part must be in good condition without cracks, severe corrosion or missing components. Examination typically takes 6 to 8 weeks.
How AUTODOC compares with two other popular UK shops
Many UK drivers also buy from Euro Car Parts and GSF Car Parts, which combine online ordering with branch networks. Their websites state free click and collect, and both allow returns in store. Here is how the basics compare, as published on each shop’s website in October 2026:

The difference comes down to how you like to shop. Brick-and-mortar stores suit anyone who wants to collect a part the same day or hand it back at a counter. AUTODOC’s strength is the long return window and the ability to handle everything from home.
A quick checklist before you order
-
Check fitment first. Enter your vehicle details carefully and compare the part with what you need.
-
Decide on Safe Order at checkout. It can’t be added afterwards, so think about whether you might need to return the part.
-
Check what’s excluded. Safe Order doesn’t cover marketplace items, bulky items, core parts and tyres.
-
Keep your order number and postcode handy. You’ll need them for the returns portal if you don’t use an account.
-
Plan around delivery. Allow for the estimated 3 to 4 business days, especially if the vehicle is off the road.
Choosing the right shop for your repair
If you need a part today, a shop with nearby stores and click and collect makes sense. If you’re planning ahead, ordering for a longer job or want the option of a much longer return window, AUTODOC’s Safe Order is worth a look. Whichever you choose, read the return terms for the specific items in your basket before you pay.
