JLR Experience – Jaguar XFR-S

You may have seen a few weeks ago a short piece on the Jaguar XKR-S in which I explained that at the heart was a brilliant engine in the form of a 5.0-litre supercharged V8. But what about if you need more than a two-door sports car? Well, then what you may wish to look at is the new XFR-S. The concept is very much the same, with the same engine, same power, same French Racing Blue paint. But with the practicality of the 4-door Jaguar XF. What more could you want…

The V8 is a bit more civilised than the XKR-S in terms of drive. The engine has the same note, but it seems a bit quieter in the XF. However the looks are anything but civilised. I think the rear wing splits opinions; some people find it a bit much, whereas I think it adequately suggests just what the R-S can do. I am a huge fan of the French Racing Blue paint. In the flesh it’s even nicer than the pictures suggest, and just suggests this isn’t any old XF.

To drive the XFR-S is rather pleasant. It burbles around town and cruises on the motorway barely ticking over. It’s comfortable, too. And then you can hit the right pedal to enter warp speed. This unleashes all 550PS the XFR-S to offer and you’ll soon find yourself arriving at the horizon. It’s unbelievably fast, make no mistake about it. But it’s also an executive saloon car, which is what I meant when I said it’s civilised. This isn’t a rip-snorting, unforgiving car that wants to bite you. What it is, is brilliant.
